The ERAU Hunt Library wants to provide you with the best possible environment for research and study, with access to resources in good physical condition, a clean and welcoming environment, and one that is free from disruptive activity. Therefore, all patrons of the Hunt Library (ERAU students, staff, faculty, and guests) are expected to follow all Federal and Florida State laws, as well as basic rules of civility and personal responsibility.  Please consult the Student Honor Code, the Sexual Harassment & Sexual Assault Policy, the Student Handbook, and the University’s APPM - Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual for details.

Animals: Only identified service animals are allowed in the library. Student Handbook, Campus & University Policies: Pets (Animals on Campus) Policy, and APPM 1.24 Animals on Campus.

Computer Use: Patrons are expected to use computing resources in a manner consistent with the educational and research goals of the university and adhere to state and federal laws. Viewing or displaying inappropriate or offensive materials is inconsistent with university policies. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #5: Computer Use, and APPM 7.5 Information Technology Acceptable Use of University Computing Resources.

Criminal Behavior: The Campus Safety department and/or outside law enforcement authorities will be called to respond to any criminal behavior. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #7: Criminal Violations.

Disruptive or Criminal Behavior: Please refrain from the following behavior in the library:

  • Creating noise that is disruptive to others including playing sound-generating devices with or without headphones that can be heard by others. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #9: Disorderly Conduct (“deemed excessively loud…”).
  • Engaging in hostile, threatening, abusive, or rowdy behavior. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #1: Abuse / Threatening Behavior.
  • Showing signs of alcohol or substance use or abuse. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #3: Alcohol – University – Violation of Law, and #9: Disorderly Conduct.
  • Damaging library materials, equipment, or furniture by marking or vandalizing in any way. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #9: Disorderly Conduct (“disruptive and disrespectful”).
  • Entering staff offices or areas without authorization. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #30: Unauthorized Entry or Use.
  • Using skateboards or roller blades in the library and bringing bicycles into the building. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #22: Personal Transportation.
  • Entering the library without wearing a shirt and shoes. Student Handbook, Dress Code Policy (“minimum requirements,” p.167).
  • Refusing to leave the library when asked. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #10: Failure to Comply (“with a verbal or written request”).
  • Posing a sanitary or health risk to others, including offensive body odor. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #9: Disorderly Conduct (“disruptive”).
  • Buying or selling goods or services, or soliciting donations of any kind. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #27: Solicitation.

Emergency Procedures: Patrons are expected to follow ERAU emergency procedures and follow directions of library staff or Safety Officers during emergency situations or dangerous weather conditions. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #13: Fire / Emergency Equipment & Procedures – University, (“failure to follow directives”).

Food and Beverages: Alcoholic beverages of any kind are not permitted in the library. Food and non-alcoholic beverages may be consumed in the library in closed containers. Patrons are expected to clean up spills or report them to library staff immediately. (Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code #10: Failure to Comply “with a verbal or written request”.)

Personal Belongings: Personal belongings left unattended are vulnerable to theft and may prevent others from using needed space. Unattended personal items may be taken to the campus safety lost and found office in the student center. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #9: Disorderly Conduct (“disruptive”).

Tobacco Use: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is proud to be a Tobacco Free Campus. University policy prohibits the use of tobacco products, including electronic nicotine delivery systems, anywhere on University owned or leased property including buildings, parking lots, and personal vehicles. Student Handbook, Violation of Honor Code, #29: Tobacco Use, and APPM 8.6.3 Use of Tobacco and Nicotine Policy.

Enforcement and Consequences

  • Patrons in violation of the library’s Code of Conduct will be asked to stop the behavior and may be asked to leave the building.
  • In the event of criminal activity, or at the discretion of library staff, the ERAU Safety Department or the Daytona Beach Police Department will be contacted to respond and assist.

Violations may be referred to the Dean of Students for adjudication and appropriate action.
