Patrons are responsible for returning all borrowed items before closing time on the date due. The date due information can be found in the email sent to the patron at the time of check out or in My Library Account .

Embry-Riddle students, faculty, staff, and alumni are not charged overdue fines for regularly circulating books. However, for all patrons (excluding Embry-Riddle faculty and staff), there are exceptions for high-demand items: 

  • Recalled items accrue fines at $2.50 per item per day and cap at $50.00.
  • Reserve materials that are kept past the three-hour check-out period accrue fines at $.50 per item per hour or part of an hour and cap at $50.00.
  • Additional fees may be levied at the discretion of the Library Director or the Associate Director for Library Operations and Access Services for egregious or habitual abuse of the loan periods that result in materials being unavailable for others during high-use times such as final exams.

All Hunt Library patrons, as listed above, are responsible for any item that is lost or damaged. Lost or damaged items will be billed at $75.00 per item.

Lost Items

When an item is twenty days overdue, the patron receives a notice and is billed a $75.00 fee for the lost item.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to keep track of due dates. Daytona Beach Embry-Riddle affiliated patrons can renew circulating print materials using My Library Account.

Returning Items

Circulating print materials must be returned to the book return outside the library or at the Borrow Desk to e properly discharged. The borrower is responsible for material lost due to improper return. Borrowing privileges may be suspended for students, faculty, and staff when $100.00 is owed in fees, if fifteen or more items become overdue, if recalled items are not returned promptly or other abuses occur.

Media from the video/DVD collection must be returned to the Borrow Desk inside the library during regular library hours not in a book drop. A $75.00 fee is charged for lost videos or DVDs.

Reserve items must also be returned to the Borrow Desk inside the library and not in a book drop.

Fines & Fees

Daytona Beach patrons: Students, staff and faculty may make payments (debit card only) at Ernie Central on the first floor of the Student Union, or online in Campus Solutions with their Ernie account.

Alumni pay fines/fees by personal check or cash at the Borrow Desk in the library. Borrowing privileges are suspended for alumni when one item is overdue, or any fines are owed. Further check outs will be blocked until overdue books are returned or fines are paid.

Damaged Items

Patrons returning materials that are damaged (due to abuse or misuse such as water damage, torn pages, writing on pages or highlighting, etc.) will be billed a $75.00 fee for the damaged item.

Materials that are returned six months past the due date or later are not eligible for refund or credit because a replacement item has already been purchased unless an exception is made by the Associate Director for Library Operations and Access Services or a member of the library’s Management Team.
